Intuitive, Helpful, Magical
We believe the most effective way to get AI to benefit as many people is by creating AI-first tools designed to be used by anyone. To do this, we've come up with a philosophy for how we craft these tools - they should be intuitive, helpful, and magical.
The tools we develop involve a tight integration between a model's unique capabilities and the end user experience. We focus on the entire product vertical, from managing massively distributed training runs across hundreds of GPUs, to meticulously hand-crafting the easing function for animations in our interface.
This obsessive approach lets us create tools with powerful new capabilities, while also being simple enough for anyone to use. But that isn't enough. We also care about making the experience of using our tools feel magical. We want to create tools that inspire awe and wonder – tools that get people to call up their parents and say "Mom, you have to try this!" We believe that building these tools is the single most effective way to get state-of-the-art models to benefit as many people as possible.
We care about shipping models in real products to real people as fast as we can. It's not rare for someone on our team to come up with an idea for a new feature, train a model for it, and deploy it to millions of users within a just a few days.
Creativity and Ingenuity
We face unique research and engineering challenges – most of which can only be solved with unusual levels of creativity and ingenuity.
We frequently do things like improve upon the latest research in unexpected and sometimes weird ways, train new models to achieve never before seen capabilities, and repurpose existing models to solve problems in wildly new domains. We also have enough compute at our disposal for us to be able to experiment with the latest research in a way that's not possible at most companies.
What to Expect
At Lexica, you'll get to work alongside colleagues from a variety of technical backgrounds who all care deeply about ensuring state-of-the-art AI tools benefit as many people as possible.
We're based in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation, benefits, flexible working hours, and a fantastic office space with a great view and lots of wonderful plants.
Technical aptitude
Generally speaking, we care more about your greatest technical achievement than where you went to school. We're looking for indicators that someone is a talented and capable researcher or engineer, such as a strong track record of open source contributions, a history of building and shipping technically challenging products, or a detailed blog post explaining how a new model architecture works under the hood.
Hybrid-remote work
Our office is located in San Francisco, and we aim to work in person two days a week. We believe this hybrid approach is the best of both worlds - we get to work together in person and share new ideas, while also having the flexibility to work from anywhere you like. We're flexible on the in person requirement if you're based in the PST timezone.
Visas
If we make you an offer, we're more than happy to sponsor your visa. We'll work with an immigration attorney to make sure everything goes smoothly.
Internships
We don't offer internships.
Interview process
First, we'll have an introductory call to learn more about what you're looking for, the role, and whether it's a good fit. This is a great step to ask any questions you may have about us.
Next, we usually do a take-home exercise or a follow-up call. This step helps us get to know more about you and closely reflects what you would be doing day-to-day in the role. This step will be catered to the respective role in order to assess the specific skill sets we're looking for.
Finally, we'll ask you to work with us on a brief project. This is where you'll get to meet the team and see what it's like to work with us . We'll make sure you have a clear understanding of what to expect beforehand so that you are fully prepared for this final step.
If the onsite goes well, we'll make you an offer! We don't always stick to this process, but it should give you a good idea of what to expect.
